3D PRINTING SERVICES

How our 3D printing process works:

  1. Let us know exactly how you want your part printed using the "PRINT MY PART" form below.
  2. After submitting your print request you will receive an email from us.
  3. Attach your .stl modeling file to that email & send it back to us.
  4. We will use your STL file to create a print file & print quote for your part.
  5. We will then reply to your email with that print quote.
  6. The print quote email will include a link to pay that quote if you wish to proceed.
  7. Once the quote is paid your part will be printed & shipped to you.

3D printing pricing:

$10 Print Run Preparation Fee:

Prep fee covers:

  • Conversion of your .STL 3D modeling file to a custom 3D print file.
  • Support material removal & part cleaning after printing.
  • Print rerun coverage in the rare case that a print run fails.
  • Multiple small parts of the same color & material can be printed in one run.

ABS Plastic Printing:

  • $5 an hour for the first hour.
  • $2 an hour for each additional hour.
  • Print times are rounded up to the nearest hour.

ASA Plastic Printing:

  • $5 an hour for the first hour.
  • $2.50 an hour for each additional hour.
  • Print times are rounded up to the nearest hour.

3D PRINTING FAQs

If you cannot find an answer to your question, please reach out to us at printmypart@protobuddy.com

  • ABS is a strong & durable plastic with moderate tensile strength.
  • ABS is the same plastic that many toys like Legos are made of. If you have ever stepped on a Lego, you already know how tough ABS is.
  • ABS has a high thermal resistance.
  • ABS is water resistant.
  • ABS has a low UV resistance & is not recommended for extended outdoor applications.
  • ABS plastic is less expensive than ASA plastic.

  • ASA is a strong & durable plastic with a moderate tensile strength.
  • ASA has the same attributes as ABS with the added benefit of UV resistance for extended outdoor applications.
  • ASA has a high thermal resistance.
  • ASA plastic is slightly more expensive than ABS plastic.

  • Infill % is the amount or percentage of plastic that your part will be filled with.
  • A part with 0% infill would be a part with a floor, walls & ceiling that is hollow inside.
  • A part with 100% infill would be solid plastic.
  • Parts with lower infill levels print faster but aren't as strong as parts with high infill levels.

  • Layer height is how high each printed layer is before the printer moves up & prints another layer on top of that layer.
  • A layer height of .2mm is the standard height & allows parts to be printed fairly quickly with good dimensional accuracy.
  • A  layer height of .1mm will have excellent dimensional accuracy, but will take twice as long to print. This is because there's twice as many layers that the printer has to stack to print the part.

  • An STL file is a 3D modeling file that represents the 3D body of a design that was created using 3D design software.
  • STL files are loaded into slicing software which then creates the tooling instructions like infill %, layer height etc. for the 3D printer to follow & print the part.
